The photo above shows the lost building at the corner of Windermere and Wyandotte in Walkerville. The tan building on the right had 6 addresses, 1706, 1718, 1726, 1730, 1736 & 1748 Wyandotte St E, with apartments above. I think it was 4 retail units, with two apartments.
The night of the big blackout August 14, 2003, a resident on the second floor had a candle lit for light, which ended up causing a fire that engulfed and destroyed the entire block. The building was demolished shortly after and has remained a vacant lot ever since.
The street scene photo was taken in 2001, while the second shot shows the morning after the blackout, August 15, 2003.

I remember that night all too well. I believe I was in 4th grade that year. I was watching Star Trek Voyager on A-Channel (CTV Windsor) around 4pm when the blackout happened. (Still not happy about that… it was my favourite episode lol)
Anyway… that night my family and I went to McDonalds and our car overheated in the drive thru. Smoke and all…
What a night!
